Take Action on the Alex Gate Safety Act

Ready, Set, Safe! is working with Congress to ensure gates have safety mechanisms to prevent them from causing grave injuries or worse. In the United States, unsafe manual gates have caused more than a dozen deaths and many more serious injuries.

We are grateful to Senators John Curtis (R-UT) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) for their co-sponsorship of the Alex Gate Safety Act (SB-1682), which:

  • Requires gates meet industry safety standards that include installing simple, inexpensive safety devices such as a “fall stop post” to prevent it from falling to the ground or “positive stops” to ensure that swing gates stop in the correct spot when opening and closing; and,

  • Calls for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to launch a national campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of unsafe gates that can detach or fall with potentially fatal results.
