Ready, Set, Safe! comments on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s agenda

“Ready, Set, Safe!, formerly The Hummingbird Alliance, appreciates the opportunity to submit comments on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s agenda and priorities for fiscal year (FY) 2026 and FY 2027.

We applaud the Commission and CPSC staff for your recent actions to raise awareness of the danger posed by potentially unsafe manual gates. The latest July 2025 update to the CPSC’s Public Playground Safety Handbook now references the latest ASTM standards for gate safety. 1 A March 6, 2025 CPSC staff letter to the American Fence Association notes that “CPSC staff agrees that gate safety is an issue that should be addressed and supports [AFA’s] proposals to incorporate these voluntary consensus standards into the appropriate I-Codes,” the modern building safety codes developed by the International Code Council. Ready, Set, Safe! greatly appreciates this support from the Commission and CPSC staff for gate safety, but more work remains.”

Ready, Set, Safe!

Our goal is to make schools safer for all children, and your support gets us one step closer to funding training and awareness campaigns, providing resources, and launching a global conversation.

We are just getting started.
